How it works
What's a skill?
A skill is a set of instructions that teaches your AI assistant how to do one job well. You still ask for what you need, but instead of guessing, it follows a proven method and hands back a stronger starting point. Skills are shareable, and they work across assistants like Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot.
How Camp Skills works
Camp Skills is an open collection of these skills, made for summer camps. Each one carries the full best practice for its job, from local search to hiring to parent email, and adds a camp layer on top. Every skill asks about your camp first, then hands you an editable draft to adapt, not a template to paste. It is free and open source.
Three skills come first
Three foundational skills give your assistant its bearings, and every other skill builds on them:
- camp-overview is the industry context, so your assistant reasons like someone who knows how camps actually run.
- camp-profile is your camp's own details: type, location, programs, ages, and voice. You fill it in once, and from then on suggestions fit your camp instead of a generic one.
- camp-voice is how your camp sounds in writing, so anything for families reads like you.
Every task skill, from camp-seo to camp-emails, reads these three first and layers its own job on top. That is why you set your camp up once and never have to re-explain it, and why installing the collection brings all of them together.
How to use them
Not sure where to start? Paste camp-skills.com into your AI assistant and ask it to help you add a skill. It can read this site and walk you through it.
Prefer to do it yourself? A skill is just a set of instructions, so it works in any AI assistant. The quickest way: open a skill, copy its Markdown (or download the file), and paste it into a Claude or ChatGPT chat. Then ask for what you need, like "write our enrollment page" or "plan a rainy-day schedule."
To add one as a proper, reusable skill, follow your assistant's own guide: Claude or ChatGPT.
Using a coding assistant (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, or Gemini)? Install the whole set with one command:
npx skills add campfront/camp-skills --allWant just one skill? Add its name, for example:
npx skills add campfront/camp-skills --skill camp-seo
